Real-time kinematic (RTK) receivers are specialized GNSS (Global navigation satellite system) receivers that provide highly accurate positioning data in real-time. Unlike standard GNSS receivers, which can provide positioning data with an accuracy of several meters, RTK receivers can provide accuracy down to a few centimeters.
RTK receivers work by using a technique called carrier-phase tracking. This involves measuring the difference in phase between the carrier signal transmitted by a GNSS satellite and the same signal received by the receiver. By tracking the carrier phase of multiple satellites, an RTK receiver can determine its precise location with great accuracy.
RTK receivers are commonly used in applications that require highly accurate positioning data. These include:
- Land surveying
- Construction
- Precision agriculture
They are also used in autonomous vehicles and drones to enable precise navigation and control.
